Live Web Cam view from
Yavapai Point, elevation 7084 feet
Provided by the National
Park Service
Located
just a few miles west from the Park's southern
entrance, the Yavapai Observation Station and
location of the Grand Canyon Web Cam
was chosen for its pivotal views and geological
significance. It is a favorite stop for visitors
to learn about the geology, fossils, and geography
of the Canyon.
Take a short walk along the rim, view the exhibits,
and listen to the ranger's talk. Did you know
...modern science has yet to convincingly explain
how the canyon was created?
The building itself, poised on the very edge
of the rim, has historical significance for
it exemplifies the National Park Service's commitment
to aesthetically blending structure with landscape.
It was designed by architect Herbert C. Maier
in the style of Mary Colter and built in 1928
from Kaibab native limestone.
